Year 3 pupils visited Central Library to meet author and illustrator Neal Layton! Neal talked about his books, one of which features an illustration of Southsea Beach, he also spoke about the importance of reading and looking after our planet. Neal lived in Portsmouth for many years and talked to the children about the wildlife in our city and ways in which we can help to protect habitats.
As always, the children were great listeners and showed respect while out on the trip.
After the event, Neal came to our school and ran two creative workshops, one with New Brighton and one with St. Catherine’s. The children used collage sheets to make Canadian Geese and Sparrows which were exhibited at Central Library!
After the event, every child received a FREE, signed copy of Neal’s book ‘The Tree’ to take home and keep. Included with this, was an activity sheet, we will post photos of this separately so you can all have a try!
The school also received bird feeders, nesting boxes, bird food and identification books, with thanks to The British Trust for Ornithology.
Thank you to The Children’s Bookshow and Portsmouth School Library Service for this wonderful opportunity!
